Haleakala /
Kula area Info
Kihei
aside, the Kula area must be one of nicest
area's of Maui, hands-down! At least in the opinion of the webmaster
of this site. (Probably because he lived there for a year)
Kula
is what's called "upcountry" and is
composed of
rolling hills of bright green grasses and
grazing cattle with strands of eucalyptus trees (and cactus!);
multiple botanical gardens and flower farms; the powerful and
personal experience of the Haleakala volcano; the small villages
like Keokea by Kula Hospital to the cowboy/horse town of Makawao.
Upcountry has no official boundaries, but is generally located
between Makawao on the Northeast, to past Kula Hospital on the
Southeast, and up the slopes of Haleakala to about the 3000' level.
The
map below shows the general area and about where
it ends at the hospital (The condition of the road degrades rapidly
after about there).
