House Rules and Rent
If you know me, then you know I hate rules (just ask the Air Force)! But since this is a shared resource, it's only common sense that we all need to abide by collective behaviors that show respect and concern for the next group using the house. Which could be those on the other side of the house, or someone coming the very next day! Do what you can to promote a great experience for the people next in line. Mahalo.

Property Rent
The rent is only to help cover my mortgage payment during the period I'm retired, but without a pension, or to compensate the renter downstairs when he is gone. All other costs like property taxes, insurance, phone, utilities are not included in the rent charge. I am doing this as a mutual benefit, i.e. you are getting a home rental in Kona at a rate that is hundreds of dollars per day lower than you could ever find, and I am getting people I know in the home, instead of taking my luck on renting it to locals. It looks like a friend will be renting the studio downstairs full time, but he will only be there part of the year, so selectively he will allow the studio to be rented out for short periods also.

I may or may not be there, so you may be on your own to get to the house if the person renting the studio is not there. But then its only a 2-3 mile, and $9 taxi ride to the house.

That being said, contact me for the rent for the Guest bedroom. The rent for the studio (downstairs in the carport) is not yet determined. The studio is fully self-contained with kitchen, shower, refer, microwave and a clothes washer.

You can pay me before you go, or after. However if you neglect to pay, or blatantly break the house rules, then you've had your last stay at the Fife arms!

House Rules
When You First Arrive (#=if I'm not there)

• Sign-in to the *Guest Book and use it as a resource.
• You may want to open some windows to air the house out and/or turn the overhead fans on. #
• If you are not going to clean the house before leaving, you have to made arrangements with John ahead of time! (see When You are Ready to Leave below for details) #
• Kick-back and enjoy being in paradise!

  During Your Stay

• Use the *Guest Book for Info, Help and References.
• Many of the Living room lights are turned on automatically when it gets dark. Please leave these lights alone.
• Do not make direct long distance calls on the phone (use your phone card or credit card or call Collect). If people ignore this I will have to restrict it to local calls only with the phone company. (Phone has 900 and Caller ID blocking on the line already)
• Any problems with the house, neighbors or otherwise that reasonably concerns me, then please contact me.
• Protect your valuables. Keep them in your bedroom (which is lockable), with you, or in your rental car trunk.

When You are Ready to Leave

• Make sure all outside access to the home is secure. Make sure the board to keep the sliding door from opening is in place. #
• The whole house should be cleaned (cleaning supplies are in the house) and ready for the next tenant, so help them enjoy their stay, as I hope you did. This means YOU are the cleaning service. If due to circumstances beyond your control you cannot clean before leaving then it's up to you to notify John right away so he can get someone in to clean (and you will pay for that). If you would rather just pay to have the house cleaned, then you need to arrange that with John BEFORE you arrive.
• Put the keys back where you got them unless told otherwise.
• Turn all lights off that are not automated (living room lights).
• Make sure the *Guest Book is in plain sight for the next guest.
