Do
I need to turn my monitor off when I shutdown?
The monitors of today are very energy
efficient (called Energy Star
compliant) and use very little energy when not in use.
After you shutdown your computer they go into a standby mode that uses
minimal electricity, so you can just leave that monitor ON.

Turning the monitor power on and off wears the electronics and
the
power button, so it's better to just let it go "to sleep". If you
are going to be gone for awhile or just not use the monitor, then sure
go ahead and turn it off.
The new flat screen LCD monitors are only about an inch thick
and they put out very little heat and use less
electricity, but of course, they cost a lot more to buy.
TIP:
CRT monitors (da big
ones, like a TV) create extreme heat when on and in use, so try
not to block the air vents on the back of it. Most monitors
can be adjusted so the display matches the size of the screen.
