What do I do if
my hardware does not work?!
This problem is very similar to the HW troubleshooting question, so I
will make some comments and then provide the link to that answer.
First question is, what HW
are you talking about. If you go into the Device Manager you can look at
all the HW devices on your system, and if the system thinks there is a
problem it will indicate that with a warning icon for the device entry.
Device Mamager path: Start / Settings / Control Panel / System / Hardware /
Device Manager
If you are talking about having problems installing a device, then you need
to refer to the installation manual, website help of the vendor, and
any email or phone support the vendor gives, as the information on this
site is very general in nature.
If you are talking about a writeable
CD/DVD drive, then it could be that the device has not been
enabled for writing:
Open My
Computer and then right click on the drive and select Properties. Select the Recording tab and see if the
box:
"Enable CD recording on this drive"
is checked
(This same page
controls the write speed and whether your drive ejects
the media when
its done).
Sometimes when you have multiple applications for managing your CD/DVD
drive (e.g. MS & Roxi), they can conflict and you
may have to turn the MS program off (unclick
the above) to
prevent problems.
