What is Fast Internet and is it worth the money?

Fast Internet should actually be called faster internet.  That is because it is just an improved version of the normal dialup internet access.  What happens is software on the internet formats the information you request when surfing the internet into a condensed form that transfers at a quicker rate than normal.  The information is then reformated into a usable form by software installed on your computer.  Even though the Fast Internet transfer involves formatting and unformatting the data, it is still quicker than just sending the data without the formatting.

However, don't expect to see a great difference in internet display performance, because of the formatting time, and because not all internet information is capable of being sent that way.  So the improvement you will experience is dependent on the type of webpages you visit.

If you really need to improve internet performance then you should look into getting DSL or cable direct service.
