Rules For Halau Pomaika'ikeolahouoka'lani
The following rules will be adhered to by all members of the
halau. The Kumu Hula shall have complete authority over the Halau.
Additional rules can be added or withdrawn at the Kumu Hula's
discretion.
1 Class will be held every Saturday.
Keiki Classes - 12:45PM to 1:45PM
Makua Classes - 2:00PM to 4:00PM
2 All dances taught for this Halau belongs to the Halau. No dances are to be shared,
shown or discussed outside of the Halau.
All dances are designed and interpreted for
this Halau only. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
3 Scheduled class time is the start time, all Haumana will
be at class at least 15 mins prior to the scheduled time.
Any Haumana who is late will sit out 15 minuets. at which
time they will then be allowed to participate.
4 Each Haumana is required to bring to each class
A. A note book and pen
B. Their Pa'u skirt
C. All of their instruments
Notes are to be taken regularly covering culture, dance,
language and history among other things - at any given time
you will be tested on what has been taught up to that point.
5 The following shall be the only approved reasons for missing
class.
A. Work
B. Sick
C. Vacation
If you are going to miss class please call 24 hrs. before
class.
6 It is required that every haumana practice one hour a day
outside of class. The class is not a place to practice but to
learn.
7 Haumana's are not allowed to cut their hair as long as they
are in the Halau.
8 There will be no murmuring, complaining, backbiting, fighting
or foul language. Halau sisters and brothers are to help,
encourage and support each other.
9 It will be each haumana's responsibility to supply their own
costumes, instruments, haku's and lei's needed. You can either
make them or have them made at your own expense (see price list
these items)
10 It is the responsibility of each haumana to have all
costumes cleaned and pressed before each performance. If
costumes are not cleaned and pressed you can not perform.
All instruments shall be brought for the performance, if
you do not have your instruments then you will not perform.
11 Each Haumana will be required to have full makeup on for
each performance. The kumu will check to make sure that all
dancers are uniform in appearance.
12 It will be at the sole discretion of the kumu which haumana's
perform at the various shows and to what monetary benefits each
haumana will receive.
